ADHD

As told by someone with a formal diagnosis

So I tried to make this as ADHD friendly as possible. I know that it can be a bit rough to get through so I tried to make it fun and cute.

I also want to add that I have done my research on this, and I have done a formal paper on adhd in girls and researched emotional responses to rejection in people with adhd. and all my info is coming from cdc, additude mag, and chaad

What is ADHD

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorder that causes inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and persists into adulthood. Though it is not uncommon for adults to be diagnosed

Do I have ADHD

sadly that is not something I can say for sure. You need a formal diagnosis to know for sure! But if you experience symptoms and feel as though you might I highly recommend talking to a doctor if you can

Types of ADHD

Inattentive

This is basically ADD. People with inattentive type ADHD are usually more reserved and quiet, very forgetful. Often misdiagnosed with depression, most often seen in girls

Hyperactive

This is the type of ADHD that you are probably most familiar with. Hyperactive, impulsive, tends to interrupt, constantly in motion. Fidgets or stims. Most often seen in boys

Combined

People with combined type basically have a mixture of both. they are quite yet impulsive. have trouble with executive function, and are fidgety.

ADHD vs ADD

Comorbidity

ADHD when AFAB

Hey Y'all! So lucky us we are commonly misdiagnosed with depression because ADHD usually manifests itself as inattentive in us. We also are more likely to be diagnosed later in life. This is because our symptoms are more internal rather than external

ADHD when AMAB

Hello Friends! Boys for the most part manifest ADHD in the way you expect ADHD to look. They are often hyperactive, disruptive, "trouble makers". Since they are what people assume to be the poster children of ADHD they can either be overdiagnosed or not receive a diagnosis because people assume they are just "boys being boys". They often get negative feedback, and joke around to hide the fact that they re actually struggling.

Rejection sensitive Dysphoria

We love her.
it is when slightest hint of rejection or even the thought of being rejected causes a spiral of anxiety and fear. It feels like the world is falling apart around you and everything you do is wrong. It can be physically painful. And can lead to people becoming withdrawn And quiet because they are too scared to speak up and have what they say be rejected.

Treatment

All I really have to say here is that behavioral therapy and getting evaluated so that you can get on medication is the best bet.

Stimulants

Most commonly used medications. here is where you will find Ritalin and Adderall

Non Stimulants

Not as fast working as Stimulants but last longer. medications like Strattera,Clonidine, and Guanfacine
